5 reasons why VALORANT is better than CS: GO

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment. It is the fourth game in the Counter-Strike series. Developed for over two years, Global Offensive was released for Windows, macOS, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in August 2012, and Linux in 2014. Valorant is a free-to-play first-person hero shooter developed and published by Riot Games, for Microsoft Windows. First teased under the codename Project A in October 2019, the game began a closed beta period with limited access on April 7, 2020, followed by an official release on June 2, 2020.

5 reasons why VALORANT is better than CS: GO

The two most played FPS games at the moment are Counter-Strike Global Offensive, referred to as CSGO, and Valorant. The objectives of both the games are the same the attacking team places the bomb (or "Spike" in VALORANT), and the defending team's mission is to defuse it before it explodes, all while trying to kill everyone on the other team. Many CS: GO players have switched to VALORANT because its shooting mechanics and weapons are similar Initially CS: GO was one of the top-grossing FPS games, and it played a major role in the esports scene but within just two years VALORANT has easily caught up to this competition, becoming one of the top-rated FPS games recently.

Top 5 reasons that helped VALORANT gain its popularity:

1. Unique Map features

There are several unique elements in each of the maps in VALORANT that make the gameplay distinct. A few of which are Ascent – known for its breakable doors, Bind – has teleporters, Split – has ropes used to traverse, Icebox – has zip lines, Haven – has three bomb sites, Breeze – it is the largest map, Fracture – multiple entries to attack sites. Whereas CS: GO does not have this wide variety of features.

2. Better Gameplay than CS: GO

The unique abilities of the agents contribute to the major portion of the gameplay, with each agent having special skills and abilities. There are four different types of agents: Duellist, Initiator, Sentinel, Controller each of which individually contributes to the vivid gaming experience. CS: GO gameplay is very basic and follows the same frequency throughout the game as it lacks all the fun elements that VALORANT has.

3. Unique Agents and abilities

The four agents in VALORANT are: Duellist- responsible for site entries, Initiator – they initiate an attack, Sentinel – they are defensive experts who can lockdown areas, Controller – they control a site. They each have their personality and abilities.

CS: GO has generic operators you can either be a terrorist or a counter-terrorist. Each agent in VALORANT has their backstory in regards to their ability and personality whereas CS: GO operators are mercenaries with war backgrounds. CS: GO lacks the flavourful elements that VALORANT has making it duller compared to VALORANT.

4. One of the best Weapon Skins

Functionally, weapon skins don't make the guns more powerful or effective, but the fact that VALORANT's visual design is not limited to realism gives the developers more freedom to create unique weapon skins and cosmetics, so there's a wide range of visual styles for weapon skins you can purchase or unlock with the battle pass. VALORANT has the best weapon Skins and animations compared to any other FPS game. Although these are expensive.

5. Cheat detection in VALORANT is better than that in CS: GO

The cheat detection system in Valorant also known as Vanguard detects all sorts of cheats. Once a cheat is detected the match will be terminated and will not affect the player points but cheating is a bigger issue in CS: GO even with its anti-cheat system in place it isn’t as strong as Vanguard.

Valorant also has an alt-fire fire for almost every gun which makes it easier for newer payers that get into the game. These are a few reasons that have helped VALORANT gain popularity in this short span of time there are several other features that make it an even better game.

It is a certain category of games that are related by similar characteristics or gameplay unlike movies or books video game genres are not defined by the story, settings, plotline, or the medium. They are grouped based on how the game is played let’s say you are a shooter in a sci-fi setting the game is an action-shooter game, now even if it's in an apocalyptic or fantasy setting, the genre remains the same as long as it is centered around the first-person shooter. We can take a look at the various video game genres in this blog.

Every video game genre you need to know about | A guide for noobs

These genres or categories are assigned to these games based on how players interact with the game, in terms of the number of genres, is growing number with an increase in the number of gaming platforms over the years from gaming consoles, computer games, and mobile games. There are main genres and several sub-genres that come under it which we will go through in this blog.

Top 10 video game genres

  • Action
  • Adventure
  • Simulation
  • Action-Adventure
  • Strategy
  • Role-Playing
  • Sports
  • Casual Games
  • Sandbon Games
  • Survival Games

1. Action

Physical challenges that demand hand-eye coordination and motor skill to overcome are emphasized in action games. They are focused on the player, who is in charge of the majority of the action. Most of the earliest video games were classified as action games; it is still a broad category that encompasses any games that require physical exertion. The action genre is very broad in terms of sub-genres and it is also often combined with other genres like action-adventure or roleplay or survival games.

Several sub-genres come under action a few of the popular ones are:

• Platform games

The best example for a platform game is Super Mario, platform games are generally centered around navigating in the gaming environment usually by jumping and climbing, often with occasional enemies to fight or puzzles to solve on their path as obstacles.

• Shooter games

Here the player or shooter wields ranged lethal weaponry to combat the opposing player or enemy. These games can have non-violent objectives and are not necessarily completely violent. There can be two perspectives for these games FPS and TPS, first-person shooter and third-person shooting. As a first-person shooter, you will have the viewpoint of the player and not be able to see the character whereas in the third person the protagonist or the body of your character can be viewed from a third person's perspective. Some games do provide both options.

• Fighting games

Compared to shooter games fighter games deal with close-range combat. Mortal Kombat (originally developed by Midway Games), Super Smash Bros, and Street Fighter are all prime examples of fighting games. Here the character is involved in physically violent attacks against one or more enemies. Most of these are unarmed fights but some games do use weapons as well.

• Battle Royale games

This genre blends several elements like exploration, survival, scavenging with the objective of last man standing wins. It challenges a large number of players that start with minimal or no weapons and then scavenge for weapons as they try to survive and outlive others. Popular games in this genre are Fortnite, PUBG (Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds), COD: Warzone, and many more.

2. Adventure

Adventure games usually require the player to interact with the people and game environment and solve puzzles or quests. Since it doesn’t usually have action elements in it adventure games appeal to people who do not generally play video games or are not looking for combat games.

3. Simulation

Like the name suggests Simulation games are designed to simulate real-life or fictional events or situations. It varies from construction, farming creating your town or even empire. The Sims is the most popular and leading life simulation game.

4. Action Adventure

This genre is a combination of adventure and action. It is adventure games with action elements in them or vice versa they usually have a long-term obstacle that is to be overcome by using tools weapons or any other collected items during the game. "Action-adventure" has become a label that is sometimes attached to games that do not fit neatly into another well-known genre. Because they prevail on video game consoles and the absence of typical adventure games, action-adventure games are often called "adventure games" by modern gamers

5. Strategy

Strategy video games focus on gameplay requiring careful and skillful thinking and planning to achieve victory and the action scales from world domination to squad-based tactics. Strategy video games generally take one of four archetypal forms, depending on whether the game is turn-based or real-time and whether the game's focus is upon strategy or tactics.

6. Roleplaying

The gameplay of role-playing video games popularly features a fantasy setting, its origin is from traditional roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons. In these games, each player plays a character that grows over time and evolves with experience.

By overcoming difficult challenges and/or defeating monsters/enemies, the player gains experience points that represent the character's progress. There are many sub-genres in RPG (role-playing games) like action RPG, MMORPG aka massively multiplayer online RPG like world of warcraft which we will go over another time.

7. Sports

Sports games simulate various sports like football, basketball, golf, tennis, and many more. It even includes Olympic sports as well. Again, this genre also has a few sub-genres like Racing; which popularly includes car racing games but there are other varieties as well.

8. Casual games

Casual games allow users to play games without the commitment of a full-fledged video game that takes longer to complete. These games are designed to be short and played when you plan on taking short breaks or relaxing. These games have autosave, pause, and minimize features as well that helps users to switch to other tasks. An example of a casual game is Frost Monk Studios’ latest game release Neon Rider which is a fun-filled timing-based game with thrilling maps and obstacles to overcome.

9. Sandbox games

In sandbox games, players don’t have a specific narrative goal or pathway to follow. This genre focuses on a more immersive experience. There could be a variety of tasks that you can do during the game. Minecraft and GTA (Grand Theft Auto) are the most popular examples, even The Sims, Sandbox games do have various elements from other genres in them.

10. Survival games

Survival games focus on, you guessed it like the name indicates Survival! Survive the game through various tasks whilst the story unfolds with resource procurement and management. Survival-horror is also a popular genre an example would be Resident Evil.

There are many more genres and sub-genres that we haven’t discussed in this blog like we said earlier it is a growing list. Hence you can never complain games are boring with such a wide variety of options to choose from.

Frost Monk Studios has a collection of video games developed by them that are of various genres ranging from a board game as ludo or a farming game to warfare or battlegrounds combat games. They are very versatile in terms of the genres that they have worked on.

MOBILE GAMING VS PC GAMING: A Quick Comparison 2021

How often do we find the millennials glued to their computer screens with an unending drive to experience intense gaming? Yes, this has become a rare sight these days isn’t it? Times have changed drastically in the gaming industry with the penetration of mobile gaming. PC gaming, which was once considered the best source of gaming available, is now slowly losing its attraction with the growth of mobile gaming. According to reports, mobile gaming, as of 2021, has the largest share in the gaming industry, with 48% of gamers investing their time in mobile games. This jaw-dropping information is a clear example of how mobile games have taken control over the gaming world with their exciting entertainment value. Does this create a major setback for PC gaming? Can PC games compete with the monumental growth of the mobile gaming industry? Let us do a comparative study of both worlds and find out some of their important details.

MOBILE GAMING VS PC GAMING: A Quick Comparison 2021

Table of contents:

  • This blog compares mobile and pc gaming in various aspects.
  1. Financial investment
  2. Accessibility
  3. Portability
  4. Gaming experience

A QUICK COMPARISON:

1. Financial investment:

When it comes to spending money, both PC and mobile games have their own sets of demands. Gamers that wish to engage themselves in heavy PC gaming will have to splash out some cash on getting a dedicated high-end PC. Also, PC games run between $10 and $40, which is quite expensive for an initial investment. Highly popular games such as FIFA, World of Warcraft, require monthly subscriptions as well. In general, PC gaming is nothing short of great entertainment, but with mighty investment.

Mobile gaming on the other hand is relatively inexpensive. Many entertaining mobile games are free to download. However, some interesting mobile games come with in-app purchases and premium content that demand financial investment. Some gamers also opt for a gaming mobile to experience high-quality gaming. But, you do not have to empty your pockets to get yourself entertained. A smartphone in hand with a good internet connection is all you need.

2. Accessibility:

Installing a game on your PC can be very tiring in the first place. The complex steps involved in setting up a game and the constant assessment of your PC’s compatibility make the pre-gaming experience not so enjoyable. Moreover, the confusing nature of this form of gaming with the involvement of keys, buttons, and other shortcuts could easily frustrate the players.

On the other hand, mobile games are so accessible. You just have to grab a smartphone and download the game that you are looking for. Games of this form are far less complicated with simpler concepts and gameplay, making mobile games an instant source of entertainment.

3. Portability:

You can’t take your PC setup with you to different places. The setup has its demands such as space, electricity, etc. This is one of the major disadvantages of PC gaming.

Mobile games on the other hand can keep you entertained all the time. You can take out your mobile phone on a bus and play a game of chess to pass the time. With the availability of numerous exciting gaming genres, you can pick the one you like and find an instant solution to chase your boredom.

4. Gaming Experience:

What do big screens, great graphics, and heavy processors get you? An immersive gaming experience. Yes, PC gaming can be a visual treat without question. Furthermore, you can customize the hardware of your PC according to your gaming requirements to further enhance the output.

Mobile games on the other hand have various limitations that make it impossible to compete with the standards of PC gaming. However, you can still enjoy stepping it up a notch with a gaming mobile. Hardcore gamers who wish to experience intense mobile gaming can invest in a gaming mobile.

CryEngine vs Unity

To define a game engine, it is the basic software framework for developing and designing a game. There are a variety of popular game engines that are vastly used amongst developers such as Unreal Engine by Epic Games, Godot, Unity, CryEngine, and many more. Out of these Unreal, CryEngine and Unity3D are the most popular and predominant ones. In this blog, we will discuss the differences between two popular game engines Unity 3D and CryEngine.

CryEngine vs Unity

VS

Table Of Contents:

What is CryEngine?

CryEngine is a free multi-platform game engine designed by the German game developer Crytek which is used in all of their titles with the initial version being used in Far Cry and continues to be updated to support new consoles and hardware for their games. The CryEngine SDK, originally called Sandbox Editor, is the current version of the level editor used to create levels for CryEngine by Crytek. Tools are also provided within the software to facilitate scripting, animation, and object creation. It has also been used for many third-party games under Crytek's licensing scheme, including Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 and SNO. Warhorse Studios uses a modified version of the engine for their medieval RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

What is Unity?

Unity3D is a user-friendly programming environment and a strong cross-platform 3D engine. Unity should appeal to anybody who wants to quickly build 3D games and applications for mobile, desktop, the web, and consoles. It is simple enough for beginners and powerful enough for experts. It is a development platform that is free to use, Unity does provide a pro-paid version that has additional features and functionalities. Learn more about Unity (link to previous unity blog by Frostmonk).

How are they different?

CryEngine

CryEngine is popularly known for its high-quality, high-resolution games and the term CryEngine is not unknown for most gamers. The languages supported by CryEngine are C++, C# and Lua, and a visual studio editor, so if you know these you are good to go. CryEngine’s graphical abilities outshine that of Unity. Being a powerful game engine CryEngine will not be an optimal choice for beginners as it is not that easy to grasp and understand, especially if you have no prior experience with game engines.

Another advantage of Cry Engine is that you do not have to pay a royalty fee for designing the game although you need to pay a subscription fee to use CryEngine. CryEngine supports Virtual Reality and boasts incredible visual effects, such as its volumetric fog and cloud rendering technology, which renders clouds in complete 3D spatial rendering and provides a realistic portrayal of fog and weather effects.

Unity

Unity is one of the easiest engines to work with it provides great assistance for coding and controlling your UI. In terms of programming languages, C# is used the most in Unity, and in addition to it, JavaScript and a few .NET languages can be used with Unity. Using Java and C# makes it easier to switch between the two and is more popular than C++, unlike CryEngine which uses C++ and C#.

If you are a beginner and are looking for an easy start into game development then Unity is a great platform for you, as it is a great engine for mid-size and small games, it helps you create 2D or 3D games and even a mix of both. It has many user-friendly features that make building your project easier along with tutorials. With the autocomplete and code suggestions it enables you to quickly learn as a beginner.

Unity’s cross-platform integration is what makes it stand out it supports 25 platforms which make it stand ahead of its competitors. CryEngine supports only 10. Popular games like Pokémon Go were developed on unity.

Conclusion

When comparing the two we did see a few advantages and disadvantages of both CryEngine and Unity from which we can conclude that both are equally good on most terms, if you are a beginner looking for a game engine to start game development or just explore then Unity is the best choice for you whereas if you are an experienced developer aiming for a high-quality game with high resolutions and graphics then CryEngine is the one as it has a variety of outstanding graphic abilities.

Frost Monk Studios uses Unity to develop several of their games, Frost Monk Studios’ latest game release Neon Rider is also developed using Unity. It is a fun-filled timing-based game with thrilling maps and obstacles to overcome.

Frost Monk Studios has a collection of video games developed by them that are of various genres ranging from a board game as ludo or a farming game to warfare or battlegrounds combat games. They are very versatile in terms of the genres that they have worked on.
